Hi there - I'm not sure how I could be more explicit, as I've given the HABS public domain tag for each of these photos, along with the exact HABS reference number for each Library of Congress entry. But I'll go back and try to make things clearer (somehow)...! cheers, Daderot (talk) 12:01, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Cycleron propinquus

[edit]

Hello, I think that creb in image File:Cycleron propinquus, crustacean, Late Late Jurassic, Tithonian Age, Solnhofen Lithographic Limestone, Solnhofen, Bavaria, Germany - Houston Museum of Natural Science - DSC01801.JPG is Eryon arctiformis not Cycleron propinquus, an other Eryonidae. You can see clearly comparing with File:Eryon arctiformis Solnhofen Plattenkalk.jpg, both are very diferent, see also: Malz, H. (1976) Solnhofener Plattenkalk: Eine Welt in Stein. Maxberg: Freunde des Museums beim Solenhofer Aktien-Verein. Pages 45 and 46). Best regards, --PePeEfe (talk) 22:26, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Aha, most interesting! Unfortunately I have essentially zero knowledge of this field, and so simply transcribed the museum's description. It's quite possible that I made a mistake in my transcription, or they may have misidentified the fossil. Please do feel free to go ahead and change the title / description since you seem to have quite good understanding of these fossils. And my apologies for my mistakes! with best wishes, Daderot (talk) 22:30, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I try to change the title and category. Best regards. --PePeEfe (talk) 22:36, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Fogg Art Museum

[edit]

You've placed File:RHoffman-AEinsle-EineFrau.jpg into an engravings category. I don't mind, but the artwork is actually a lithograph. Perhaps the category should be renamed "Engravings & lithographs"? There are just 4 entries. Cheers, Easchiff (talk) 18:50, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ah yes. Right you are. Maybe "prints" would be better? cheers, Daderot (talk) 22:55, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for my slow reply. I haven't found anything better than "prints", but the word suggests the reproductions in the giftshop. Perhaps "printed artworks"? There's a pretty good article on Printmaking, but it doesn't suggests a single word to cover the multitude of technologies for producing printed artworks. Hello,

I am writing on behalf of Fagbokforlaget publishing house, Norway.

We are currently working on a book about art, crafts, technology and design for higher education. The title of the book is Kunst, håndverk, teknologi og design (9788245012880). The foreseen print run of the book is 2000 copies. The book will be available on the Norwegian market only. The publication is planned to be released in April 2013. Authors of the book would like to use a photo of Louis Majorelle's Armchair. I have found the above mantioned photo here:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Armchair,_Louis_Majorelle,_1900_-_IMG_1639.JPG

We hereby ask for your permission to publish the above mentioned picture in our book in first edition and following reprints.

We would really appreciate if you could contact us via email: Anna.Sontowska@fagbokforlaget.no

Hello Daderot,

I'm a grafic-designer and presently working on a stamp-design for the 300th anniverary of Christoph Willibald Gluck, the german opera-composer. In this connection I looked for good photos of his bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon. The one I found in your gallery which shows him nearly in profile is the one I like most. I would love to use it in my layout!

It is called: File:Christoph Willibard Gluck by Jean-Antoine Houdon.jpg Wikimedia Commons

Now my question is: would you give permission to do so?

And if – there are new questions: The german stamp-design is organised as small invited competitions by the financial ministry. A layout is only accepted, when we can make sure that the rights on all pictures are cleared up. First of all they want to know: of who's origin is the picture. Then it would be good if I have an e-mail in which you give the permission. In case my layout will be choosen for realisation the financial ministry will contact you for the payment of the right to use your photo.

Uff! Difficult all this bloody formalities, especially in a foreign language … ;)

It would be great, if you could contact me via e-mail: kommunikation@scholzkaren.de

Many thanks and very best whishes Karen Scholz

Thank you for asking - I am delighted to give permission, and will send an email note to you as requested. With best wishes, Daderot (talk) 09:52, 14 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What do you think you were doing?!? In all my years as a....OH WAIT...Wrong rant! LOL Reboot! Just a quick thanks for adding the very nice Biddle photo to the article. Much appreciated. Back several mos. ago when I expanded the article I'd intended to track down a photo/portrait but then my W.A.D.D. You know, I was just admiring that article. It was interesting, well-written, and informative. Glad to add a picture, and thank you for your very kind rant! Daderot (talk) 15:08, 4 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Winged Genie Photo

[edit]

I noticed your great picture of the winged genie taken at the Nelson Atkins art museum, it is described obviously as a genie in your photo. I believe that it may actually be a photo of Shamash, a Babylonian sun god.

Hi there! thank you for your very interesting note. I don't know very much about these things, so what I did was to copy out the information given on the museum description next to it. It would not surprise me if you know more about this than the museum does, and you almost certainly know more than I do! with best wishes, Daderot (talk) 22:44, 25 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Rubus pertitus

[edit]

"Rubus pertritus", fotographed in 2012 at Botanischer Garten Frankfurt am Main is synonym to Rubus limitis Matzke-Hajek & Großheim in Matzke-Hajek 1996 (Corylifolii). Greetings Garden stuff FRT.

Greetings! I am not an expert, and am very glad that you are. Please do feel free to correct that photograph - it would be great improvement. With best wishes, Daderot (talk) 08:48, 14 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

William Prentiss House photo

[edit]

Hi Daderot ... First off, thanks for all of your great work out here on Commons and on Wikipedia. I'm just dropping you a quick note to let you know that this photo isn't of the William Prentiss House at 252 Gray St., Arlington, MA, but rather the house next door at 248 Gray St. MACRIS identifies the building in your photo as the Philip Everhardt House. I'm changing the description and re-categorizing accordingly here on Commons and will also remove it from the applicable articles on Wikipedia. Cheers! --Sanfranman59 (talk) 19:59, 27 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Cincinnati Art Museum - Request

Hi Daderot, I see that you have uploaded several pictures of exhibits from Cincinnati Art Museum. I am not sure if you are from Cincinnati. But, if you are going back there again, can you please capture this exhibit? Thanks --వైజాసత్య (talk) 04:32, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there - Happy New Year to you! Alas, I am far from Cincinnati and have no plans to be there again. Sorry about that, as that relief looks really interesting. with best wishes, Daderot (talk) 14:43, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Daderot, Please could you check the name of this plant ? Le name Michelia charlacea is not listed by Flora of China or Kew Garden. Thanks for your help !--Pixeltoo (talk) 10:38, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! Thank you for your eagle eye. I'm not a botanist, so what I do is copy down the name recorded on the plant's tag. In this case, I have fortunately kept my original photo of the tag, and its binomial clearly reads: Michelia charlacea B.L.Chon. Looking up Michelia in www.theplantlist.org, which is now my usual way of checking names, I found this: "Michelia chartacea B.L.Chen & S.C.Yang is a synonym of Magnolia chapensis (Dandy) Sima". In short, there may be two errors on the tag: charlacea/chartacea and Chon/Chen. If so, this plant really should be Magnolia chapensis. I am not an expert, and hence not sure of any of this, but if you feel you understand things well, please go right ahead and fix as needed. My apologies for getting things wrong! And all best wishes for the New Year - Daderot (talk) 13:23, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ok thanks, I m not expert of this genus but I think you're probably right. Thanks for your help ! Happy new year to you too !--Pixeltoo (talk) 13:42, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Daderot - do you know which this is, please? Acer sterculiaceum subsp. franchetii and Acer tsinglingense are treated as separate taxa by the Flora of China. Thanks! - MPF (talk) 10:11, 8 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi MPF! I'm a fan of your work, and you know considerably more botany than I do. Since I am not a botanist, I use theplantlist (Kew et al) as my source of taxonomic information. Thus the tree was tagged Acer tsinglingense by the Morris Arboretum, but theplantlist considers this to be a synonym. Here is a pointer: http://www.theplantlist.org/tpl1.1/record/kew-2616602. Personally, I don't have any dog in the taxonomic fight, and would be happy with either classification! with all best wishes, and please keep up your great work - Daderot (talk) 20:26, 16 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent, thanks! Before you replied I checked them against the drawings in Flora of China, and they match Acer tsinglingense perfectly while differing from Acer sterculiaceum subsp. franchetii, so the Morris Arb have it as what I already expected. The Plant List is still in an early stage and full of numerous errors and odd results, so I reckon it is best to go with the Flora of China and accept them as different; I'll remane the files accordingly shortly. - MPF (talk) 19:30, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Done! - MPF (talk) 08:50, 18 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of upload removal

[edit]

Dear Daderot:

The Wikimedia Foundation (“Wikimedia”) has taken down content that you posted at File:View of Niagara Falls in Moonlight, Herman Herzog, 1872 - Museum of Fine Arts, Springfield, MA - DSC03997.JPG due to Wikimedia’s receipt of a validly formulated notice that your posted content was infringing an existing copyright. When someone sends us a validly formulated notice of copyright infringement, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (“DMCA”) Section (c)(1)(C) requires Wikimedia to take the content down, and to notify you that we have removed that content. This notice, by itself, does not mean that the party requesting that the content be taken down are suing you. The party requesting the take down might only be interested in removing the content from our site.

What Can You Do?

You are not obligated to take any action. However, if you feel that your content does not infringe upon any copyrights, you may contest the take down request by submitting a ‘counter notice’ to Wikimedia. Before doing so, you should understand your legal position, and you may wish to consult with an attorney. If you choose to submit a counter notice, the alleged copyright holder can either refuse to contest the counter notice or decide to file a lawsuit against you to restrain Wikimedia from re-posting the content. Please note that Wikimedia will not be a party to any legal action that arises from you sending a counter notice, and that Wikimedia is unable to provide you with legal advice.

Filing a Counter Notice

If you choose to submit a counter notice, you must send a letter asking Wikimedia to restore your content to legal@wikimedia.org, or to our service processor at the following address: Wikimedia Foundation, c/o CT Corporation System, 818 West Seventh Street, Los Angeles, California, 90017. The letter must comply with DMCA standards, set out in Section (g)(3)(A-D), and must contain the following:

  • A link to where the content was before we took it down and a description of the material that was removed;
  • A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good faith belief that the content was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification of the material to be removed or disabled;
  • Your name, address, and phone number;
  • If your address is in the United States, a statement that says “I consent to the jurisdiction of the Federal District Court for the district where my address is located, and I will accept service of process from the person who complained about the content I posted”; alternatively, if your address is outside the United States, a statement that says “I agree to accept service of process in any jurisdiction where the Wikimedia Foundation can be found, and I will accept service of process from the person who complained about the content I posted”; and finally,
  • Your physical or electronic signature.

Pursuant to the DMCA, Wikimedia must inform the alleged copyright holder that you sent us a counter notice, and give the alleged copyright holder a copy of the counter notice. The alleged copyright holder will then have fourteen (14) business days to file a lawsuit against you to restrain Wikimedia from reposting the content. If Wikimedia does not receive proper notification that the alleged copyright holder has initiated such a lawsuit against you, we will repost your content within ten (10) to fourteen (14) business days.

Miscellaneous

As a matter of policy and under appropriate circumstances, Wikimedia will block the accounts of repeat infringers as provided by Section 512(i)(1)(A) of the DMCA. However: The Legal team has made a determination that they do not believe this takedown counts as a strike against you.

If you would like to learn more about Wikimedia’s policies, please refer to the Wikimedia Terms of Use, available at Terms of use, and the Wikimedia Legal Policies, available at m:Legal/Legal_Policies. More information on DMCA compliance may also be found at:

Wikimedia appreciates your support. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions regarding this notice.

Hi BunBun-J. Thank you. It is an extraordinary museum, isn't it? I am sorry that many of my photos are not so good, and I hope someone else can do better. I've noticed that you are adding categories to the photographs - thank you so much! You are doing an amazing amount of work, and it makes a huge improvement. I still have a few more left to upload to the commons, which I will probably do within one week. I particularly like the seaweed collections at the museum. with best wishes, Daderot (talk) 21:44, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"Artefacts"

[edit]

Here and elsewhere, I wonder about the term "artefacts". Seems very condescending, especially for a work attributed to a particular artist. Would we ever use that term for a comparable work of a European or European-descended artist? - Jmabel ! talk 16:20, 26 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I think the problem may be the very existence of a single category that embraces both mundane objects and even the highest art of a culture. Contrast, for example Category:Art of France vs. Category:Clothing of France vs. Category:Crafts of France vs. Category:Products of France. I'm not sure what would be the correct solution, but I'm pretty sure that people would be appropriately offended if we lumped all of those under a Category:Artefacts of France. (Also, separate question, why "artefacts" rather than the normal English "artifacts"? Is there a distinction I'm missing or is this just wrong/foreign spelling? Trying to get some clarity before I bring this to the Village pump, which is probably where we should try to build some sort of consensus.) - Jmabel ! talk 21:15, 26 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again - As may be apparent, I am somewhat at a loss how to deal with these objects. I am taking photographs of items in museums ranging from objects such as mortars/pestles to objects that are very well painted/crafted but do not seem to be intended as artwork for contemplation. Clothing seems easy enough, as do (for example) baskets, and so I just use those categories when appropriate. For what it's worth, I've been wrestling with these questions in museum displays of objects from Africa and North America recently. And finally, I use the spelling "artefacts" because the highest level Commons category (Artefacts) is spelled that way, not because I have any agenda. As I say, just trying to fit in.... but sometimes it's not so easy.... cheers, Daderot (talk) 23:11, 26 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'll use this discussion as a basis to pose a question at the VP. Feel more than free to weigh in there. - Jmabel ! talk 05:37, 27 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and it turns out that artefact is the more common UK usage, which means it's a perfectly acceptable form of the word. I'm from the U.S., but I've spent enough time in the UK that I'm rarely surprised by these differences, but in this case I was. - Jmabel ! talk 05:41, 27 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I think that Naupaka kahakai is a vernacular name (not a scientific name) for Scaevola taccada. Do you remember why:

Dear Liné1 - I greatly admire your work, so am happy to have this opportunity to interact. First, I would be very happy if you transformed the categories as you suggest; that would be a great improvement, in my view. Unfortunately I do not remember why I created those categories in the first place, but I do feel that your changes would be a major improvement. With my respects, and all best wishes, Daderot (talk) 13:16, 25 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot for the nice worlds.
I did the modification.

that the sculpture Fountain of Eternal Life (wikipedia link) [1] are copyright violations. I added simlar pictures to the article in 2006 and they wee removed as violations in 2008. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 20:55, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Einar (aka Carptrash)! Hope all's well with you. Here's the investigation I did, which I put into the images that I uploaded: "According to the SIRIS record, the fountain was cast in 1962 and dedicated on May 31, 1964. There is no mention of a copyright notice in the description and thus it is assumed to be public domain in the United States by virtue of being published without any such notice." So it could be copyrighted, but I didn't find any evidence that it was. If not, the appropriate license tag would seem to be: "PD-US-no notice – any work first published without copyright notice prior to 1978." But I sure don't make any strong claims here! with all best wishes to you, Daderot (talk) 21:04, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I am not intending to make an issue, I just am a bit pissed off (not at you, your pictures are a vital part of describing the work) because I had maybe hundreds of pictures removed during the first wiki copyright police blitzkrieg years ago and I still can't post something without all sorts of folks showing up, wanting to argue. At that time the need for pre 1973 (or whatever) copyrights to be renewed was not known, at least not by me, so I did not have that line of defense. Also, having been part of the Save Outdoor Sculpture! project back in the early 1990s - the results of which became much of the SIRIS database - I know that a lot of information, such as copyright marks were missed. It being particularly difficult to examine fountains. And so life goes on. Carptrash (talk) 20:52, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Carptrash - I know, it's EXTREMELY annoying, a pretty clear case of "guilty until proven innocent". Worse yet, things get deleted before one gets back to the wiki, and that's that. On the brighter side, however, over the years I've taken quite a few photos of public monuments and statues, and have always been pleased to see that "you have been here" before me. It seems that there are only a few of us who are really into having such great public statues in our cities and towns. I didn't know about the Save Outdoor Sculpture project - is anything like it still going? with a tip of the hat and all best wishes, Daderot (talk) 22:18, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The SOS project is, I believe, still going on and is looking for folks who are willing to survey sculpture. It is an interesting way to get your work put into the Smithsonian. They are not fussy about picture copyrights, I've talked (written) to them about it and so far no artist has wanted pictures of his or her work removed. I suspect that wikipedia would get the same results but are choosing to take a different route. It is a good feeling to know that someone has noticed my footprints through wikipedia's coverage of American sculpture, and yes, there are not a lot of us. Thanks for uploading File:Art - Bela Pratt, Boston Public Library.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Hi Daderot - your gallery User:Daderot/gallery is so gigantic that it made my computer crash when I tried to open it to update a filename. Could you split it into about 20 separate sub-page galleries, please. Thanks! - MPF (talk) 23:15, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi MPF - I've just deleted most of the gallery, as it was automatically created by some upload tool and I don't want it. Hope this solves the problem for you. with best wishes, Daderot (talk) 12:03, 5 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I saw you uploaded this file. I am sending you this message to encourage you to add valid SOURCE and AUTHOR information to it, as well correct its COPYRIGHT information, all of which have been entered incorrectly. The "Source" field should indicate where you got the image (a web page? A book? Did you actually take the photo yourself?), the "Author" should be the name of the artist who created the painting (which is not you), and since you are not the copyright holder of the painting, you need to use a different public domain copyright tag such as {{PD-Art|PD-old}} or one of its derivatives. It's a beautiful image— please make sure that it gets the correct file information! Thank you! KDS4444 (talk) 23:44, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your note! Yes, I did take this photograph myself; that's why I labelled it "Source: Own work". The original artist is Soga Shōhaku; that's why I labelled it "Hawk by Soga Shōhaku (曾我蕭白) (1730–1781), possibly created in 1763". I am not sure exactly what I am doing wrong, but am always glad to mend my ways. cheers, Daderot (talk) 23:48, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, I definitely forgot
Public domain

This work is in the public domain in its country of origin and other countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 70 years or fewer.

You must also include a United States public domain tag to indicate why this work is in the public domain in the United States. Note that a few countries have copyright terms longer than 70 years: Mexico has 100 years, Jamaica has 95 years, Colombia has 80 years, and Guatemala and Samoa have 75 years. This image may not be in the public domain in these countries, which moreover do not implement the rule of the shorter term. Honduras has a general copyright term of 75 years, but it does implement the rule of the shorter term. Copyright may extend on works created by French who died for France in World War II (more information), Russians who served in the Eastern Front of World War II (known as the Great Patriotic War in Russia) and posthumously rehabilitated victims of Soviet repressions (more information).

which I have now added. Thanks much! Daderot (talk) 23:51, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

German thermite incendiary bomb

[edit]

I hope you don't mind my contacting you. I am the curator at the National Museum of Flight at East Fortune in Scotland. I am currently working on a major redevelopment which will see two of our hangars restored with new displays inside. I am working on the interpretation and am seeking images for our aircraft and other objects as well as a timeline of aviation technology.

We would love to include your superb photograph of the German incendiary bomb at the National World War 1 Museum in Kansas City. I assume under the terms of use you are happy for us to use this image, but I want to check the wording of the acknowledgement you would like us to use. Would you like "© Daderot" or your real name, or something else. If you could email me at i.brown@nms.ac.uk to let me know, I will make sure we use your preferred form.

Done. Thank you for your kind words, and congratulations on a very fine museum. Daderot (talk) 11:54, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Image license for Natural History Museum of Utah

[edit]

Please change the creative commons license for all images taken of Natural History Museum of Utah exhibits. You are incorrect that the museum allows "photography without restriction". As per its stated policies (https://nhmu.utah.edu/policies): "Photography and videography by our gallery visitors is encouraged. However, all media created by visitors must be for personal, noncommercial use only."

Therefore, any images of exhibits at the Natural History Museum of Utah should be posted to Wikimedia using a CC BY-NC creative commons license.

I am very sorry about that. I have no argument with the policy, and clearly I was mistaken about it. Right now I am traveling but when I am back home and have a block of free time, I will make the corrections. My sincere apologies. Daderot (talk) 19:29, 18 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Plant specimens

[edit]

Hi, I just wanted to mention that the category "Specimens in Bergianska trädgården" may not be the best choice because the botanical garden has an associated herbarium, and "specimen" generally means a museum (herbarium) specimen, i.e., a dead plant. "Plants in Bergianska trädgården" would seem to me to be a better choice. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 14:03, 3 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sminthopsis84 - thank you for the tip! I'm not a botanist and don't have any axe to grind here; I've just been trying to fit into the constellation of other botanical garden image collections, which often appear to use the "specimen" category. But I very much appreciate your helpful information, and would certainly not object to changing the category title. with best wishes, Daderot (talk) 10:54, 4 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Californian sword fern image

[edit]

Hello "Daderot",

i spotted your photo of Polystichum californicum at UV Berkeley Garden. It is an impressing large individual for sure, and current ID may be exactly right, the species may have rather less incised pinnes. For the case this example got aborted sterile spores at time within sporangia, it is certainly the hybrid P. californicum × munitum, with less incised pinnes than usual californicum.

Could you ask the staff of UV Berkeley if someone was interested to check the spores, just a microscope and a few minutes afforded. In case this was the hybrid the ID should be changed, maybe there is already some published binomial for it, i don't know one myself.

Best regards Erwin

Greetings! Thank you for your very interesting note. Unfortunately I live across the continent from Berkeley, and do not have any contact with the Regional Parks Botanic Garden staff. Worse yet, I am not a botanist so I cannot even ask the question properly! However, I did find contact information for the park staff: http://www.ebparks.org/about/contactus. I'm sorry I can't be more help to you, but am quite interested in what you find out. Apologies, and all best wishes to you, Daderot (talk) 21:54, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, am surprised by your quick and kind answer, thanks a lot for this! Had thought you were from the region of SF Bay, yet at this conditions i will ask the Berkeley botanists myself. For sure i am going to tell you the results and if the ID is accurate or will have to be changed in case. Thanks for the contact link, now is the right time to prove spores for fertility, so i'd better do this right now.

Till later Erwin

Help at Category: Polystichum

[edit]

Hi again, have corrected several IDs of images meanwhile and added several Categories at specific level to Category:Polystichum. All right so far, but 4 of those were sorted under letter P instead of right place according epitheta. I looked for a chance to rearrange those, sorry too complicated for me at time, didn't know which tool to use :-\ Could you please care for alphabetical resorting, i disliked to mess it up.

Ps: You added Polystichum × bicknellii, photo from BG München, hybrid P. aculeatum × setiferum. This file is named using the letter x, not the crossing sign ×, as i do think might be the preferable choice? The corresponding category is likwise and sorted under letter x at parent C:Polystichum. Thus my question, would it be better to replace all x by ×, or is it likely this might not fit into general usage at commons and cause troubles? As stated above i do prefer usage of the sign in general, however no letter x is allowed, or at least recommended in taxonomic combinations of hybrids. I probably will add further C:hybrids, yet got to know the rules before.

Thanks in advance --Stamnaria0568 (talk) 08:47, 20 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again! Sounds like you are doing a lot of really good work. I'm not entirely sure about hybrids but believe that "×" is preferred. Here are two people who are extremely active in botanical categorization - if you have the inclination, it might be helpful to make contact with them. Both appear to be knowledgeable botanists: Liné1 and MPF. I hope you have a good time talking with them! with best wishes, Daderot (talk) 11:32, 20 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I'm not usually a contributor and don't have an account. I know from looking for other comments about this that you're not a botanist, but I thought you might like to know that the plant in your photo of "Triolena pustulata" is mislabeled. The plant in the photo is actually Pilea involucrata, a plant with somewhat similar leaf texture but in a different family. Hopefully the place it is growing has corrected that in real life.

Thank you! I've added a note to the photo description, and then created a category for Misidentified plants. Hopefully some of our good botanists can sort through this whole category and correct any mistaken identifications. Thanks again, and all best wishes, Daderot (talk) 21:40, 12 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Photo de Typha minima

[edit]

Bonjour

Vous avez publié une photo datée du 19/12/2014 intitulée : Specimen in the McConnel arboretum.......Typha minima. Pour moi il s'agit d'un jonc mais pas de Typha minima. Les feuilles et les fruits sont différents

cordialement Marcel Macaire (Macairema) 18 octobre 2015

Bonjour!

[edit]

Bonjour. Tu as créé Category:The Peony Pavilion, mais cette catégorie existait déjà (Category:Mudanting). The Peony Pavilion n'est que la traduction en anglais du titre Mudanting. Du coup il faudrait en supprimer une des deux. Cdlt. --FreCha (talk) 06:25, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bonjour et merci! I have linked Category:The Peony Pavilion to Category:Mudanting so we can fix this. Thank you! Daderot (talk) 10:25, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Felicidades

[edit]

File split

[edit]

As you've requested, I've split the file history of your file. The orignal content is at File:Mr Nguyen Quy Kinh (1693-1766), Dai Duong teacher of the crown prince, Worshipping house of the Nguyen Kinh family, Tu Liem, Hanoi, 1766 AD, gouache - Vietnam National Museum of Fine Arts - Hanoi, Vietnam - DSC05090.JPG. The newer content is at File:Mr_Nguyen_Quy_Kinh_2.jpg. If you can, please update the summary and categories of the two files to match the depicted content. You may wish to request that one or both files be renamed. —RP88 (talk) 07:11, 25 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! I'll try to work on the smaller file, though someone else uploaded it (over my version). Many thanks again. Daderot (talk) 12:39, 25 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Use of Eubrontes Track Photo

[edit]

Dear Daderot,

I work for Adventure Publications, and we're producing a guide to dinosaur dig sites and exhibits of North America. We'd like to use your Eubrontes track photo from Wikimedia, and we'd like to know if we may have your permission to do so. If so, how would you like to be credited?

You can reach me at brett@adventurepublications.net

Thanks so much!

Brett Ortler
