Obsolète ?
[edit]Bonjour Rama,
Category:Musée Saint-Raymond, Ra 9 bis, File:Venus-Ra 9 bis-P9020614-gradient.jpg ! :) Rama (talk) 15:42, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- I was actually just looking at User:Rama/Catdef and was wandering if there are pieces there that Module:Artwork is not doing. --Jarekt (talk) 13:56, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- My User:Rama/Catdef might have some bells and whistles for "Object history", "References" (it displays Reference URLs and also lnks to museum database such as Joconde, Atlas (the database of the Louvre) or that of the MEG (Ethongraphy museum of Geneva)) and "Date" (takes "earliest date" and "latest date" to generate "before/after/between"). Do not hesitate to ask if you have questions, and thank you for this splendid work! Cheers! Rama (talk) 15:37, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- Also, my template uses "era" in addition to "date", and "location" in addition to "collection". Might be useful to locate an artwork within a museum, see the rendering for the Seated Scribe, for instance (below). Cheers! Rama (talk) 19:59, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- I guess Module:Artwork and Module:Wikidata art are not doing many things User:Rama/Catdef is doing. What I attempt to do is
- for "Object history" I try to combine commissioned by (P88), owned by (P127) and significant event (P793) properties
- date is most mature. It uses Module:Wikidata date and is able to get most phrases supported by Module:Complex date. But I do not use time period (P2348).
- for reference I do not do anything, but I added "authority control" field and maybe could expand {{Authority control}} to support other types of identifiers.
- Looking at relationship between location (P276) and collection (P195) it seems like people do not know how to use them. They are often the same, sometimes if it is an altar location (P276) will be used and if a museum than collection (P195). At the moment I look for collection (P195) and than for location (P276), but I would like to make sure that institution and accession_number match and some artworks have a list of dozen location (P276) with dates. I do not handle such cases at the moment. It is the first time I see collection (P195) used as location within location (P276).
- It seems like much more can be done. --Jarekt (talk) 04:13, 24 April 2018 (UTC)
- Is there anything I could do to lend a hand? I originally wrote User:Rama/Catdef just as a proof of concept, I have a very limited knowledge of Lua and its libraries on Wikimedia, and my development environment is hopeless, is there documentation on best practices somehwere? Cheers! Rama (talk) 12:14, 24 April 2018 (UTC)
- I do not know about, written best practices and my knowledge of Lua was minimal couple years ago. en:Wikipedia:Lua might come the closest. I always try to work with main and sandbox version with official tests and results pages. If possible, I try to use Module:UnitTests to set up extensive testing environment, like at Module:Size. You are welcome to add support for more fields, either at Module:Artwork (harvest_wikidata function) or Module:Wikidata art: country of origin (P495) -> place_of_creation, discoverer or inventor (P61)+time of discovery or invention (P575)+location of discovery (P189) -> object history and/or place_of_discovery comes to mind. Another task could be expanding Module:Authority control as suggested in Template_talk:Authority_control#Expanding_to_use_more_generally_than_just_people?. It could also include identifiers relevant to artworks like the ones you use in References. If you are interested let me know and we can coordinate further. --Jarekt (talk) 13:57, 24 April 2018 (UTC)
